CINCINNATI – Triple H and Shawn Michaels journeyed to SmackDown ready to defend their Unified Tag Team Titles against CM Punk and Luke Gallows. However, after a strong exchange of words between all involved – as well as from the No. 1 Contender to the World Heavyweight Championship Rey Mysterio – SmackDown GM Teddy Long decided to seize the opportunity to change things up. Instead of tag team action, Mysterio would go one-on-one with HBK for the first time ever on SmackDown, while The King of Kings would lock horns with The Straightedge Superstar.
With Luke Gallows and recently inducted Straight Edge Society member Serena lurking at ringside, Triple H triumphed over The Second City Saint, though not the way he may have intended. As The Game was setting up The Pedigree, Serena and Gallows attacked, causing the official to call for the bell. Once the trio had secured their post-match advantage, they tried to cap off their assault by shaving Triple H’s head. But HBK swiftly arrived to even the score and DX cleared the ring of Gallows. When they turned their attention back to Punk, however, the “Straight Edge savior” suddenly pulled Serena in front of him in order to save himself.
In the final moment of their epic clash, Shawn Michaels answered The Master of the 619’s signature move with Sweet Chin Music. As both Superstars struggled to recover, Batista attacked, driving Michaels to the canvas with a spear and blasting Mysterio with a spinebuster. His attempt to hit the Batista Bomb on Michaels came up short, however, when Triple H ran to his DX partner’s aid. The Game and The Animal fought over the top rope and out to the floor. As HBK and Mysterio attempted to get to their feet, they were met by the familiar gong of The Undertaker. The Phenom appeared out of the darkness and chokeslammed both war-torn Superstars.
