CINCINNATI – Triple H and Shawn Michaels journeyed to SmackDown ready to defend their Unified Tag Team Titles against CM Punk and Luke Gallows. However, after a strong exchange of words between all involved – as well as from the No. 1 Contender to the World Heavyweight Championship Rey Mysterio – SmackDown GM Teddy Long decided to seize the opportunity to change things up. Instead of tag team action, Mysterio would go one-on-one with HBK for the first time ever on SmackDown, while The King of Kings would lock horns with The Straightedge Superstar.

With Luke Gallows and recently inducted Straight Edge Society member Serena lurking at ringside, Triple H triumphed over The Second City Saint, though not the way he may have intended. As The Game was setting up The Pedigree, Serena and Gallows attacked, causing the official to call for the bell. Once the trio had secured their post-match advantage, they tried to cap off their assault by shaving Triple H’s head. But HBK swiftly arrived to even the score and DX cleared the ring of Gallows. When they turned their attention back to Punk, however, the “Straight Edge savior” suddenly pulled Serena in front of him in order to save himself.

In the final moment of their epic clash, Shawn Michaels answered The Master of the 619’s signature move with Sweet Chin Music. As both Superstars struggled to recover, Batista attacked, driving Michaels to the canvas with a spear and blasting Mysterio with a spinebuster. His attempt to hit the Batista Bomb on Michaels came up short, however, when Triple H ran to his DX partner’s aid. The Game and The Animal fought over the top rope and out to the floor. As HBK and Mysterio attempted to get to their feet, they were met by the familiar gong of The Undertaker. The Phenom appeared out of the darkness and chokeslammed both war-torn Superstars.

ORLANDO, FL. – Earlier in the night, The Hart Dynasty and Chris Jericho traded verbal barbs over who should be No. 1 Contenders to DX. Appearing on the arena screen, DX poked fun at their challengers, including offering The Hart Dynasty a one-way, paid trip back to Canada. But, it was Jericho who suffered the ultimate insult when David Hart Smith and Tyson Kidd drove him into the canvas, leaving him writing in pain.

In their first title defense since winning the Unified Tag Team Championship, DX came to SmackDown to take on The Hart Dynasty. The champions were looking to continue the Christmas cheer they spread on Monday Night Raw (Raw recap). After a competitive contest, it was DX who reigned supreme when HBK hit David Hart Smith with some holiday Sweet Chin Music, followed up by a devastating pedigree from Triple H.

In the biggest Eight-Man Tag Team Match in SmackDown history, Superstars from both SmackDown and Raw battled for bragging rights on one of the biggest nights in WWE. After a hard-fought war, it was Undertaker who reigned supreme for his team when he crushed Randy Orton with a devastating Tombstone. The brutal end begs the question – what kind of condition will The Viper be in on Sunday when he takes on WWE Champion John Cena in Hell in a Cell?

With retribution toward his WrestleMania opponent Randy Orton consuming him, Triple H denounced the past claims that Orton’s illness had caused him to attack his wife, Stephanie McMahon. He proclaimed that on The Grandest Stage of Them All, he will “cure” the “disease” that is The Legend Killer. The King of Kings then emphasized his point, hitting The Pedigree to reign supreme in a hard-fought match with The Moscow Mauler. Though Kozlov brought his impressive record and every bit of his unbridled intensity to the table, it was not enough to check the ultimate fury of The Game.
